Italy, officially the Italian Republic (Italian: Repubblica italiana), is a country located in south-central Europe. With 60.4 million inhabitants, it is the sixth most populous country in Europe, and the twenty-third most populous in the world.
Italy's capital, Rome, was for centuries the political centre of Western civilisation as the capital of the Roman Empire..
Welcome in Sardinia-
Sardinia is the second-largest island in the
Mediterranean Sea (after Sicily and before Cyprus). It is an autonomous region of Italy.
nThe island has a typical Mediterranean climate. During the year there are approximately 300 days of sunshine, with a major concentration of rainfall in the winter and autumn, some heavy showers in the spring and snowfalls in the highlands. It can blow quite strongly, but it is usually dry and cool and makes for a sailor's paradise.
Education in Italy:
nEducation in Italy is free and compulsory from 6-15/16 years of age, and is divided into five stages: kindergarten (scuola materna), elementary school (scuola elementare), middle school (scuola media), high school (scuola superiore) and university (università). Italy has both public and private education systems. The different types of Liceo are:
n"Liceo Classico", which features Latin, Ancient Greek, Italian, History and Philosophy as its most important subjects.
n"Liceo Scientifico", where the emphasis is more on scientific and mathematical topics.
n"Liceo Socio-Psico-Pedagogico", where the emphasis is more on scientific, psychological, social, philosophical and pedagogical topics.
n"Liceo Linguistico" puts emphasis on language learning.
n"Liceo Artistico", which is oriented toward arts teaching - both in a theoretical (i.e. Art History) and practical (i.e. drawing sessions) way.
nThe "Istituto Tecnico" (Technical Institute), called in Italian ITIS (Istituto Tecnico Industriale Statale, i.e. National Technical/Industrial Institute) and ITC (Istituto Tecnico Commerciale i.e. Technical/Commercial Institute) is more oriented toward practical subjects, such as aeronautics, business administration, computer science and chemistry.
nThe "Istituto Professionale" offers a form of secondary education oriented toward more practical subjects, enabling the students to start searching for a job as soon as they have completed their studies.
nThe "Istituto d'Arte" is a particular form of Istituto Professionale, which offers an education focused on art and drawing.
nThe Italian school system also features the Scuola serale (evening school), aimed at adults and working students.
